DV8_to-be-straight-with-you

I went to see DV8's To Be Straight With You. I'm not going to write a review about it. I just want to show the performers some respect.

There's this point in the piece where a mobile phone rings and one performer on stage goes 'switch off your mobile phones. We can't be sure that you are not communicating with people from the outside that might come in only to cause trouble!'

I knew it was a stunt, but it did make me aware of the risk the performers are taking with work like this. That they in fact could be in danger. So I sat there, suddenly fearing for their lives. Okay I'm overemphasising, but imagining what personal consequences it might have for the performers, I think we shouldn't forget that discrimination against gays is a serious issue, and that these performers are raising the awareness of it - probably not completely without sacrifice.
