Lick Our Souls

Taking place at the Austrian Cultural Forum London, The Visual Arts Platform curated by Eva Martischnig and Adriana Marques presents emerging artists from or working in Austria. This month Austrian artists Elke Auer and Esther Straganz have turned the gallery space into a bastard battlefield, translating their interdisciplinary reflections on the body into marvelous monstrous moves with an energy that is both welcoming and confrontational. The work, Lick Our Souls: Blended Bodies and Golden Loopholes, their first solo show in the UK, is working towards complex multi-dimensionality and a ridiculous chaos of violent happiness.

Elke Auer and Esther Straganz use found objects, poems and quotidian materials to create installations, performances and wearable sculptures exploring the micro-politics of gender, sex and sexuality. The body, its thresholds and possible extensions are at the heart of the artists' interest. Conscious of the weight of their subject, and the extensive meanings and associations that accompany it, they have found a way of tackling it - in a manner that is playful, and simultaneously shockingly open.

Austrian Cultural Forum London is open Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm, Lick Our Souls closes 30 July.
