In honour of what I believe to be a Rather Good Radio Station that is soon to be axed by the people with power, I will be making 'Theme Time' posts. The station has had some of the only music radio shows that I can stand, with music the presenters love and without over-excited morning radio presenters to depress the hell out of you. Which is nice. (Though I admittedly haven't listened to morning radio for years) Anyway, same old story, someone needs to save some money so anything that hints at subversion loses out...

Bob Dylan had a show aired on 6 Music Theme Time Radio Hour (he has the best DJ voice ever) and it is from this I will take the concept for my lists of (generally) performance-related good stuff. Starting with Ageing.

Kontakthof by Tanztheater Wuppertal
The late Pina Bausch's company bring Kontakthof to London. Performed this weekend at the Barbican by a cast of teenagers and another of over 65s. She was so great I might buy a cat and name it Pina in her honour.

Seven by Fever Ray
Check out this video for nostalgia and old lady pelvis gyrations...

Patti Smith Dream of Life by Steven Sebring
Beautifully shot documentary about Patti Smith made over eleven years.

Ill Seen Ill Said by Samuel Beckett
Kindof haunting novella whose protagonist is an old woman living alone somewhere in the country, thinking about life and waiting for death.

All About Eve by Joseph L. Mankiewicz
Film released in 1950 starring Bette Davis as Margo Channing an ageing star usurped by the sneaky young Eve. It has a script led by Channing's sharp tongue that includes gems like this: "I'll admit I may have seen better days, but I'm still not to be had for the price of a cocktail, like a salted peanut". And Marilyn Monroe's in it.
