Spork

A bizarre eating ritual.

A joining bridge merges our minds together in a gooey, gloopy glue stew. Connected by the dominating dollop of the arch of starch we perform as a single being. Our limerick laden mouths and wriggling writhing bodies tell the twisted tale of 'Chris and his frispy lisp'.

This is a multi-disciplinary performance that explores socially unacceptable behaviour and one's innate desire to belong. Be transported into our world: The Land of Crisps. Experience the visual impact of our movement and our costume, alongside our text filled with extraordinary characters.

I'm still tickled by the discussion at Trashing Performance that include Simon from Duckie - there was some akwardness around the topic of having possibly compromised artistic aims by accepting commissions from the Barbican. I like a bit of controversey and possible hypocrisy...

The Metro say it's the most fun you'll have in a theatre this year, they guarantee it. Make you want to buy a ticket? There's a FREE post-show Christmas party on Friday 16th.

Duckie say:

Capitalism is collapsing…

...so let’s go shopping!

Step inside the Duckie superstore and witness the decaying arcades of branded Britain.

Conspicuous consumption thrives in this promenade performance
featuring saucy shopaholics, supermarket sweepers and sweatshop santas.

Purchase your dreams – love, peace and happiness – all boxed up as consumer durables.

In an age when we know the Katie Price of everything and the value of nothing,
this rollicking good romp asks: Does Christmas mean more than shopping?

A post-panto promenade performance for festive benders, yuletide trenders, former youth offenders, corporate defenders and hey big spenders.

Made by and starring the Duckie All Stars:
Scottee, Harold Offeh, Jess Love, Ryan Styles,
Bird la Bird, Susannah Hewlett, Sheila Ghelani,
Roy Kerr, H Plewis and Dickie Beau

Costumed by Nicholas Immaculate Songs by Gus Gowland

You are invited to A COLOURFUL CELEBRATION OF GILL CLARKE
A durational 12 hour event on
11th December 2011 11am - 11pm

Siobhan Davies Studios
85 St George's Road
London SE1 6ER

It is with great sadness we share the news that after many years of living with cancer Gill Clarke died on November 15 2011 as she lived, calmly and with great poise. ID has lost a wonderful director and inspiring artist. However, we have been working together to ensure our vision of ID continues to grow.

It was Gill's wish that this should be a colourful, celebratory and forward-looking event. In the spirit of Gill we wish to take over the building as a kaleidoscopic space for both programmed and spontaneous happenings. It's time for polyphony...to  socialise, respond, witness, participate, collaborate, create,
share, support, make connections, contribute & reflect.

We hope to create an environment where each of us can make this occasion what we need it to be.

Come and go any time between 11am to 11pm and stay as long as you wish. We will begin with a communal setting up of the space.

Some provisions of food and drink will be available at different times in the day. However please bring a packed lunch and/or supper for yourself & family.

Sharing of the work created during the performance project with Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion.

6:00pm-7:00pm, Friday 9 December, 2011

Winlab Informal Performances

SLAPPING LEGS AND STEPPING OUT - Gaby Agis and Eva Karczag. A relationship of discovery using a simple score to anchor free play and support the unfolding of stories that pass through.

Promenade - devised and performed by Chris Crickmay, Sylvia Hallett and Eva Karczag. The basic framework for Promenade is one of a continually evolving improvised performance in sound, movement and installation, set in motion within the terms of an established working process. The performers deliberately place themselves on a precarious edge of unpredictability in order to find something that feels alive and pertinent to the present.

7:00pm-8:15pm, Wednesday 14 December, 2011

ID's 21st birthday and Winlab 10th anniversary

After this evenings performance by Eva Karczag, Gaby Agis, and Sylvia Hallett we will be holding a short but heartfelt celebration.
Please come and enjoy drinks, nibbles, and plenty of chat and help ID celebrate 21 years of existence, and the 10th Winlab Anniversary.
We would love to see you there! So we know we have enough drinks and nibbles for all, please do let us know if you plan to come along by emailing rachel@independentdance.co.uk

December 01 - December 31, 2011

Come to BAC this Christmas and celebrate with shows from some of the best theatre makers in the UK.

Everything from fairy tales for adults to serious comedy for kids, Scratch, poetry, spoken word, storming live music, a Christmas Market throughout December and an unmissable New Year’s Eve party.

-----------

John Hegley                                                                                                10 – 31 Dec, 2:30pm & 7pm

John Hegley’s Christmas Crackers

Crammed into this festive celebration are tales of tails of dogs, dads and Daleks, verses about voles, and an attempt at some unicorn noises. There is a story about the man who thought his television was a pet, some challenging ideas, boisterous bits of joining in and much laughter.

Mixing poetry, songs and screwball stories, join John as he leads you on a surreal and fantastical Christmas journey with some deep stuff and a little bit of dancing. Age Guide: 7+
£9/ £7 Concs

Skittles                                                                                                                  15 – 16 Dec  8:30pm

Richard Marsh

A story about love. (And sweets, which are more reliable). Richard Marsh's debut solo show Skittles is a tale of broken dreams, trans-American road trips and a seductive mistress called Sorrow. Fusing poetry and prose, Skittles is a deeply funny and truly moving account of losing love and learning to put yourself back together again.

£10 / £6 Concs

Jimmy Stewart, An Anthropologist From Mars,                          15-17 & 22-30 Dec (exc. 24 Dec) 9pm

Analyses Love And Happiness In Humans (And Rabbits)
Tassos Stevens

I'm playing a Martian Jimmy Stewart on a quest to understand love. You're the audience playing the planet Earth entirely from a sitting position with drink in hand (if you like). This is a piece of pop-up playful storytelling with an impossible sound system. It's played theatres, living rooms, lecture theatres, pubs, and parks: across the planet Earth. It's about the imperial unit of measurement of human feeling, a man who falls to Earth, and at least three other impossible things. And there’s the odd joke.
Each night will take place in a different space. Pick the one that suits you.
Thurs 15 - Café – The performance will be in a public space with other café users around you.
Fri 16 - Out and About - A walking performance in the streets around BAC (bring a coat!)
Sat 17 - Fireplace Room – In cosy and warm surroundings.
Thurs 22-Fri 30 - New Committee Room – Cosy surroundings…just on a larger scale.

£8, £5 concs

Zainab Chloe Katya: Scratch                                                                                    16 – 17 Dec 7:30pm

Sabrina Mahfouz

Sabrina presents a scratch of her second solo show in development, Zainab Chloe Katya – following the adventures of three young women who run London’s ‘clean crime’ scene. Come listen to the lyrical tales of credit card fraud and emerald smuggling, whilst being the first to find out how video gaming will mean the experience need not stop at the theatre.

Sabrina’s debut solo show, Dry Ice, was nominated at Edinburgh 2011 for The Stage Award for Best Solo Performance.

Pay What You Can

The Mother of All Goose Parties                                                                                    17 Dec 7:30pm

Little Bulb

Little Bulb return to BAC this December, for a one night only musical Christmas party. Treat your sweet senses and dancing legs to the party’s sonic antipasti of sassy pseudo-fiesta funk, water story power folk, electronica gender anthems, dirty agro railway blues plus a bit of the strummy soft stuff for the lovers or the lonely, in a high octane evening of madcap musical wildness, wilderness and general gooseyness as we all endeavor to find out WHO. WE. ARE.
This is a chance to see the latest musical creations from the makers of Operation Greenfield, which sold out at Soho Theatre earlier this year, in a final Christmas blow out at BAC.
